The short answer: Google AI Pro costs $19.99 a month, but it's the easiest big AI plan to get cheaper. US college students get it free for a year if they claim it by December 31, 2026. Everyone else can share one plan with up to five family members, which works out to about $3.33 a person, or pay yearly. If you don't need Google's top models, Google AI Plus costs $4.99.
Here's every way to pay less, cheapest first, with what each one actually costs and the catch.
What Google AI costs
US monthly prices, checked October 2026:
| Plan | Monthly | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Gemini with basic limits, 15 GB of storage |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99 | 2x the Free limits, 400 GB of storage |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 | 4x the Free limits, Google's Pro models, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, 5 TB of storage, YouTube Premium Lite |
| Google AI Ultra | from $99.99 | 5x or 20x the Pro limits, 20 TB+ of storage, YouTube Premium |
Pro is the plan most people mean by "Gemini Pro" or "Gemini Advanced". It's also a storage plan, which is why it's cheaper than it looks.
1. The student offer: $0 for a year
Cost: free for 12 months, then $19.99 a month.
Google gives US college students aged 18 and over a full year of Google AI Pro for free. You verify that you're a student, and you have to redeem it by December 31, 2026. You need a payment method to sign up, and you have to re-verify each year.
After the year it renews at $19.99 unless you cancel, so set a reminder. Students in many other countries get a free year of Google AI Plus instead. Check Google's student page for what's offered where you study.
Best for: US college students, but only until the deadline.
2. A Pixel 11 Pro: $0 for six months
Cost: free for six months with a new Pixel 11 Pro or Pro XL.
Google includes six months of AI Pro with its Pro phones. That's down from a full year on the Pixel 10 Pro. You have to start it yourself in the Gemini app, and the claim window may have closed, so check before you count on it.
Best for: people already buying a Pixel 11 Pro. It isn't worth buying the phone for.
3. Share it with your family: about $3.33 a person
Cost: $19.99 split between up to six people.
Google AI Pro is part of Google One, so the plan owner can add up to five other people to their Google family group at no extra cost. Each person gets their own Gemini limits and their own private chats, and the 5 TB of storage is shared. Split six ways, that's about $3.33 a person.
Watch out for: everyone has to be in your Google family group, and you can only switch family groups once a year. The plan owner pays and can remove people at any time.
Best for: families, couples and households. This is the best deal on any big AI plan.
4. Switch to Google AI Plus: $4.99 a month
Cost: $4.99 a month, 75% less than Pro.
AI Plus gives you twice the Free limits and 400 GB of storage, but not Google's Pro models or the higher limits. Look at what you actually use. If it's mostly questions, writing help and summaries, Plus is probably enough.
Best for: everyday users who don't need the strongest model.
5. Pay yearly: about $16.67 a month
Cost: $199.99 a year. Saves about $40.
Google has offered AI Pro as a yearly plan on its Google One plans page since 2025, about 16% off paying monthly. Before you pay, check the same page for a free trial, which Google sometimes offers new subscribers.
Best for: people who know they'll use it all year.
6. Let it replace what you already pay for
Cost: often only a few dollars more than you pay now.
AI Pro includes 5 TB of Google storage and YouTube Premium Lite. If you already pay for a Google One storage plan (2 TB is $9.99 a month) and YouTube Premium Lite (about $8), you're spending about $18 a month on things AI Pro already covers. Upgrading and cancelling those makes the AI itself cost about $2 a month.
Best for: people who already pay Google for storage or YouTube.
7. Resold "family slots": cheap, but risky
Cost: a few dollars a month.
Sellers on marketplaces and Telegram offer AI Pro for a few dollars by adding strangers to their Google family group. Google's terms say family groups are for families, so the seller can remove you, or Google can shut the group down, with no refund. The seller can also see your name and email.

If you want more than Gemini
Many people who pay for Gemini also pay for ChatGPT, Claude, Canva or a voice tool. If that's you, the cheapest setup isn't a cheaper Gemini. It's paying less across all of them. Here's every way to get AI tools cheaper, side by side, or compare the best AI subscription bundles.
A bundle like the Luxury Tools membership gives you shared access to Gemini, ChatGPT Pro, Claude, SuperGrok, Perplexity, ElevenLabs and 25+ other tools for $29.95 a month. That's more than AI Pro alone, so it only pays off if you'd otherwise buy two or more of those tools.
| Tool | Plan | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Pro | $200 |
| SuperGrok | Standard | $30 |
| ElevenLabs | Creator | $22 |
| Claude | Pro | $20 |
| Perplexity | Pro | $20 |
| Gemini | Google AI Pro | $19.99 |
| Bought separately | $311.99 | |
| Luxury Tools membership | $29.95 | |
